Monday Shmunday

Happy to be home after a long weekend of hard climbing and hiking. Looking forward to a nice, long break from school and work starting tomorrow afternoon! Couldn't be happier. Have a good Monday!

Iceland vs. John Adams

Oh, you know. Just editing an eBook on John Adams and rewarding myself every two slides with five minutes of Pinterest browsing. Operant conditioning, we call that in the early childhood world. Yes, it works on twenty year olds.

Sooo... can we talk about how almost every possible beautiful thing is in Iceland?

I just want to travel everywhere that's this wondrous. Why don't they have a degree in exploring? Rex and I could easily get a doctorate. And Murph and Bear would be the first pups as college graduates!

A Long Weekend Adventure

What a BIG weekend for us over here!! We spent the weekend climbing Mt. Massive in Colorado (elevation 14,421 feet), seeing Mumford & Sons at the Aspen Jazz Festival, and camping in the mountains. I can tell you, I've never had a more exhausting or more rewarding weekend. Don't worry, I'll have a million and one pictures for you soon!

Hope you had a great long weekend too!!

Hiya!

I spent a long time trying to think of some kind of "I'm back!" title that was clever without being cliche or hard to understand without voice inflection ... and I came up with nothing. Obvs I've been away from the blogging world for too long.

Anywho, can I get a "Hallelujah" that this season of life is over? Summers are always somehow the CRAZIEST times for us here. We were both working full time, and taking six+ hours of summer classes, and moving, and trying to be normal humans who have friends and social lives and all that (pffftt).

So I figured we could do a little picture wrap up of the last several weeks and call it good. Kay?

We worked, we played, we camped in Colorado, we celebrated my birthday, we went to Dallas, we celebrated my birthday again, we were loved on by my sweet parents and sisters, we made A's in all of our summer classes, and now we're getting ready to start a whole new semester!

And can we just talk about this sweet guy for a sec? He took his first classes at Tech over the summer and has a 4.0 GPA right now. No joke. He's a business genius, y'all, so look out. The smartest man I know.

So here's to a new season of life! My last year of undergrad and Rex's first year at Tech...so exciting! I'm looking forward to sharing it with you!

Cousin Weekend

Last weekend, Rex and I met up with a gaggle of cousins in Dallas to spend the weekend bonding with our much-loved family!

Now, I love my family. Growing up, Taylor and I had Kelsey and Kaila as a second pair of sisters that we could spend time with when we got tired of yelling at each other (just kidding....but really). But now, any time we try and get together, a giant debacle usually ensues. Like Saturday morning, we couldn't find a FedEx that could print out our tickets to the game, so we had to drive to Kelsey's boyfriend's parents' house to print them.

Since we successfully made it to the game, it ended up just being funny. But from the hours of 11 AM - 1:30 PM on Saturday, we were all just about at the end of our collective ropes.

It was so nice to get to see everyone. Kelsey and Kaila are both in Dallas, Karmen and Taylor are in Tyler, and I, obviously, am in Lubbock, so we don't get to see each other as often as we used to. But it is just such a blessing to have such a wonderful family.

I am the luckiest.

Happy L(ate)easter!

Since the Cooksey family (and myself as well, at times) is the worst about remembering to take family photos, I don't have anything to show for the weekend that we spend in Abilene. It was a great time, however. We got to spend a lot of time with long-time family friends, eat LOTS of good food, and, unfortunately, attend the funeral of Rex's great-godmother (god-grandmother? I'm not sure how that works). It was a happy weekend, with a little bit of sad as well.

I hope you had a good Easter! Here are a few of my favorite Easter posts from around the web, to make up for my lack of photos. (That last one isn't Easter-themed...just hilarious.)

And here's a precious Easter baby...

Spring Break-agram

I just love using my mom's phone to Instagram pictures when we're back home.
Here are a few from the Spring Break visit, including our very successful fishing trip...

Our trip out to my aunt & uncle's new land...

And some cousin reunion time in Oklahoma!

Kaila, on the left, is living in Dallas and working at the House of Blues. Kelsey, between Taylor and me, just moved to the Dallas area to start working at Baylor Medical in Waxahachie! And Taylor is still kicking tail on Varsity soccer at Lee. Aren't they gorgeous?

Happy Friday!

Praise the Lord, Spring Break is finally here.

We are just so excited to be heading home to visit the fam, eat good food, teach little Taylor how to shoot the shotgun, and NOT design any lesson plans/write up any Business Law case studies for at least 6 whole days.

Do you have any plans for the week, those out there who get a break? I have to admit, I think spring is my favorite season. Iced coffee and shorts and baseball...what's not to love?

Anyway, enjoy your weekend, wherever you are and whatever you're doing!

Taos Ski Valley

That's what I looked like coming down the mountain yesterday.

...hah!

Y'all, I did not take to skiing very well. Not a big surprise, honestly. But this morning, I was so sore that I could hardly get out of bed. Needless to say, I let Rex conquer the mountain on his own today, while I'm hanging out in town, drinking coffee, buying gorgeous copper jewelry, and getting lost walking around and checking out the beautiful historic downtown area.

I've made friends with a group of old men, a shop owner/potter from Snyder (small world right!?), a barista who has never left New Mexico, and about 10 different doggies (sheepdog, huskies, Aussie, border collies, and mutts galore!)...Taos is my kind of place.

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Latey Late Late

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I hope you had a great holiday! Rex was sick (which makes this his second consecutive year of being sick on V-Day! I think his body is trying to tell him something...) so we relaxed and he went to the doctor. We went out to dinner and exchanged gifts and that was about it! It was a nice day.

And then on February 15, Rex got SUPER sick. And today he's a little bit better! So tomorrow, he should be back to normal. And tomorrow is when we are leaving for the mountains! Three days in Taos to celebrate our anniversary.

So have a good weekend y'all! We sure will!

(and wish me luck on the slopes)

Officially back home in Lubbock. Work starts tomorrow and school starts in a week. Back to the real world!

09 January 2012

Happy 2012 Y'all!

We spent five nights in Destin, Florida and a night in New Orleans to start the new year. What better way, right? It was great. We went deep sea fishing, and got to eat the best seafood EVER. And drove. So much driving! We got massages (Rex's Christmas gift to me!), listened to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on audiobook (Rex's new favorite thing), splashed around in the ocean (only for a little bit - the water was cooold!). And we spent a night on Bourbon Street on our way back to top it all off.

Have you ever been to Bourbon Street? It is an experience, let me tell you. And we were there on the night of a home Saints playoff game, and two days before the BCS Championship game. What were we thinking?? Haha. But it certainly was a good time.

I hope you started off your 2012 as wonderfully as we did! I can't even say how glad I am that a new year is here and off to a happy start. 2011 was a tough one. It had it's ups and downs to be sure, but the downs were pretty weighty. I'm so happy that a new year is here, and I truly feel like 2012 will bring great things!

All the best for 2012!
