A Few Little Things

- No real word yet on the computer. No diagnostic issues, but now they're running hard drive tests and that's where they think the real problem is.
- We found out that Rex placed 5th out of nine male beginning climbers, and I placed 3rd out of five female beginning climbers in the competition last weekend! I am so proud of him, some of those guys were way good.
- You know how I talked about going through phases? Right now I'm in a black bean phase. Really.
- There are a ton of really cool routes set up at the gym right now, including a lot of really fun beginner routes. So if any of your Lubbock-ites are looking for something fun to do this weekend, head to our favorite place to get a great workout!

Good At Things

I just discovered this new book by Andy Selsberg. I basically love anything in list form, but a published group of lists with an encouraging, funny message? Count me in. Some of the "skills" are funny (forcing people to acknowledge how adorable your baby's foot is), some are genuine (battling inner demons), and some are facetious (telling professional coaches what to do).

What are you good at? I'm good at handling throw up (TMI? Let's be real, I'm an early childhood professional and that's basically a qualification), watching the same movies over and over (ie The Dark Knight, Inglorious Basterds, and Dawn of the Dead), and giving late birthday gifts.

...those count right?

P.S. - While I was linking to Amazon, I discovered this book in the "More Search Results"...what a gem!

Flaunt It

I just LOVE it when people are proud of who they are. More specifically, when women are proud of the way they look. Whether that's tall and thin and model-like or short and curvy. I have a dear friend who is just barely over 5 feet and a voluptuous little thing, and she just exudes confidence about it, and I love it.

But, I also know it's easy to not think that way. I am 5'4" and curvy to be sure, and when I try something on that I know would look just SO much better if my hips were a little straighter or my bust was a little bit smaller, it's a little discouraging.

So, here are a few things about myself that I (almost always) love that society probably wouldn't encourage, just to remind myself (and yourself!) that they're beautiful anyway:

- Hips that look a little bit like any extra bit of fat on my body
just decided to settle there and hang out.
- A broken-looking nose. Not Owen Wilson-broken, mind you, just maybe like Owen Wilson
after the first time he broke it, not the fifth.
- The roadmap of scars spanning from the top of my left foot from a run-in with a 2'x4'
to the chickpox scar next to my left eyebrow.
- I wear my glasses pretty often. They're about an inch and a half tall.
That should be all I have to say.
- Calluses and permanently bent fingers that make my little hands look sometimes like a little boy's. But those calluses took a month and a half of climbing to make so I'm pretty darn proud.
- That weird, unfortunate, impossible-to-get-rid-of, under the belly button fat that doesn't go away no matter how many lower ab-workouts I do. Which, consequently, isn't that many.
- An almost-permanent farmer's tan. I'm not even a redneck....

Be happy with yourselves today, friends! Even though it's hard to do sometimes. You are beautiful!

You Know What I Really Like?

...the abbreviation "vom" for the word "vomit"... Is that weird? It makes such an awful word sound choppy and cute.

Also,
- A good pair of men's trousers
- The word "trousers"
- Greek yogurt
- "Treat Yo Self" days
- Stand up comedy
- Rex's new Yildiz
- When you can leave the doors open and not be afraid of a dust storm blowing through the house
- A potted orchid that makes our living room look so classy
- Teaching
- Planning trips that may or may not really happen
- Rock-climbing
- Specifically, bouldering

Anyone care to add anything?

A Week of Happiness (day 1)

Well hello again friends! I'm making a quick return from the real word for a momentary blogging break. (Cue apologies for making fewer and fewer blogging breaks recently.) But, I am starting today, A Week Of Happiness (which may extend longer than a calendar week, but there will be at least a week's worth of posts!). Just a post of things that are happy and fun, that hopefully you'll enjoy too!

How pretty is the Emily Font by Jones Design Company? I wish my personal handwriting looked like this. How much better would my class notes look then?

Oh. My. Goodness. This is just the most wonderful combination of wit and cake! How funny is this entry?

This glasses site has some really awesome, affordable frames. Plus, for every pair you buy, they donate a pair. (These are my favorite!)

Still wanting to make this pretty shirt. It seems pretty simple too!

Oh, these father-daughter photos just melt my heart!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you're having a good week!

More Excuses

So you already know that I don't have internet at the house (should be coming very soon, fingers crossed!). But here are a few other reasons why I've been a horrible blogger lately.

-School school school! My Summer II class is very work intensive.
-Work work work! My nannying is very work intensive! Keeping up with Chew (Chase+Drew, heehee) is so exhausting sometimes. Chase is just a whirlwind of activity. Sometimes when I get home, I'm just ready to sleep!
-I'm still trying to get settled in the new house. With my mess, it's like moving in + deep cleaning an already moved into room.
-Sickness. Getting better and better every day, but the intensive antibiotics I'm on sometimes makes me feel like laying around all. day.

But, internet is coming soon, and I'm getting into the swing of things with class and work, so hopefully I'll be back to a normal schedule once more!!

Happy Tuesday!

Very Pinteresting

Please tell me, what have I been doing my whole life that I just found Pinterest? Just today, I discovered zucchini noodles and a garden that grows vertically, learned how to tie a celtic heart knot and knit my own coffee cup sleeves, drooled over a beautiful floral wedding cake and too many summer-y outfits, and found inspiration for at least four new craft ideas. Here are a few of my favorite new discoveries.

So if you have nothing to do, go lose yourself in the combined effect of the internet and shared interests. And then get up and make something!

Happy crafting!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Favorite video: Jorge Narvaez and his daughter Alexa on the Ellen Show. So adorable, I am just in love.

Favorite Song: Howlin' For You, The Black Keys

Favorite New Recipe: These incredible looking "Million Dollar Brownies". Don't they just look amazing? So thick and chocolate-y. Mmm.

Favorite Summer Dress: What a pretty little number from Anthropologie. I love the pleats and the gorgeous design. Perfect for the sweltering Texas summers, too.

Favorite Craft Idea: Adorable ruffle wreath by Jones Design Company. Everything she does is decorating gold, and I love the idea of this on the door for summer with a bright fabric flower (which she also has tutorials for!)

Favorite Haircut: Also my next haircut! I just absolutely adore the way Shannyn Sossamon pulls off this super-short cut. But she'd probably look gorgeous with no hair, so we'll see how it works for me!

Favorite Bottle of Wine: Now I'm usually not a fan of white wines, but Cavit Pinot Grigio is just so good! Crisp and fresh, and not too sweet.

Well, I think that's all I have for y'all today! I will let you know one of my NOT favorite things...Murphy's gas! Homeboy's farts can clear a room in a second flat. Good thing he's so cute or else he would NOT be able to get away with that.

Agenda for the Week!

Well hello friends! Today marked the beginning of my personal Hell Week. Let me explain. Today, Tuesday: Final presentation for Child Development, book test over Friday Night Lights (fascinating book, by the way, less fascinating movie). Wednesday: Final presentation for Speech, group project paper due. Thursday: Final project due for Music, final exam for Child Health & PE. Friday: Final exam for Speech. Monday: Final project for Children's Science. Tuesday: Final exam for Texas History, final project (part 2) due for Music.

Whew. That's exhausting just to sit down and plan out. Anyway, hope you're having a good week, maybe send a few prayers my way just to ensure that I make it to Dead Day alive and all in one piece.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday! Here are a few things making me smile from around the world wide web.

The most delicious cake I've had in a while

Isn't this the most gorgeous floral dress you've ever seen?

How many have you read?

Pretty invaluable, albeit slightly paranoid, information

How completely adorable!

Hope you're having a great day!

10 Things

ZZ Top on vinyl reverberating through the house

Vanilla cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese icing

Perfect weather for taking Murphy on a walk

An obedient, relatively calm Murphy to take on a walk

Jimmy John's #14 with avocado and cheese

Baking with all the windows and back door open

Crafting and sewing projects with a wonderful friend

Singing in the car at the top of my lungs

Feelings of accomplishment and productivity

A couple of really good test grades

These are the things I'm holding onto today. Today would be a textbook day to wallow in past bad decisions and missteps, harsh words and hurt feelings. But these are the blessings God has sent me to remind me that life is always beautiful.

Today's Menu

For the lunch special, we have a pecan-crusted rainbow trout, cooked to perfection by our world-class chef. For your sides, we have fresh, lightly-salted green beans, and buttery mashed potatoes.

And tonight, for dinner, we'll be serving a grilled provolone and pesto sandwich, with a side salad and not-quite-as-fresh green beans. Finally, a slice of Butterfinger cake and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

...it's little things like this that make everything so much better.

A Few Things

-My sweet friend Kathryn's donation page. The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's key fundraiser; Kath lives in Denton and is participating in the Dallas Arthritis Walk in May. She's had Rheumatoid Arthritis for most of her life and is the sweetest girl in the world. So, if you're feeling generous, check it out.

-I found a new favorite clothing website. Adorable and affordable! Love this dress, and this crocheted sweater. And I'm obsessed with all things high-waisted, so these pants are next on my list.

-I just got Rainn Wilson's book Soul Pancake in the mail and I'm loving it so far. Who'd have thought good old Dwight Schrute was an author?

I hope you're having a great day!
